CHIMES Program Now Accepting Interest Forms for 2025-2026

Attention all pre-med students!

Passionate about empathetic healthcare? Interested in reflecting on real patient experiences? Want a unique experience for your medical school applications?

The UGA CHIMES (Crump Humanism in Medicine Exposition Scholar) Program gives pre-med students the opportunity to practice reflective writing by exploring how people experience illness and make health decisions. Students either interview a patient or examine a meaningful medical moment in history, then turn that work into a narrative piece. Participants receive faculty feedback on drafts and have the chance to be considered for the CHIMES award and publication in The Classic Journal.

How to sign up:
Please fill out the Google Form below if you are interested in participating. Once you submit the form, you’ll receive an email with registration details. After completing the registration form, you will be added to the CHIMES listserv. For students who do not already have someone they can interview, we are currently in the process of arranging interview opportunities, and will share more information about that process in January.

Important deadlines:
  • February 23, 2026 — Deadline for first draft from participating students.
  • March 8, 2026 — Deadline for students to receive faculty feedback.
  • April 1, 2026 — Deadline for final draft to be received by faculty.

**Please note that filling out this form DOES NOT commit you to participating.
