Dear Students, You are strongly encouraged to consider applying for a new award to help fund summer undergraduate research. The Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Fellowship (BSURF) has been established to support undergraduate research opportunities in the Division of Biological Sciences within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The Fellowship provides financial assistance to a student who has not had an opportunity to participate in a mentored research experience (paid, volunteer, or for credit) since matriculating to The University of Georgia. An award of $3,000.00 will be provided to the recipient of the Fellowship and paid in two installments in the Summer of 2021. The research is to be completed during the Summer Thru session term of 2021. Eligibility Applicants must be current Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Cellular Biology, Genetics, Marine Sciences, Microbiology, or Plant Biology majors in their 1st through 3rd year and have not had the opportunity to engage in mentored, scientific research. Finding Research Opportunities Students are responsible for finding a faculty mentor to supervise the summer experience. The Division Biological Sciences Research Opportunities page has a guide to help students find a research mentor. CURO, the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities, also has a guide : https://curo.uga.edu/students/getting_started_guide.html (remember this experience is not for credit, so you do not need to follow the “Getting Started” instructions until the tips found in Step 4). You can also find advice on finding opportunities on the Division Biological Sciences Research Opportunities page. The application deadline is April 9, 2021 at 5:00pm. The completed application packet should be submitted through biology@uga.edu. Only completed application packets will be considered. Best of luck to all of our applicants, Dr. Kris Miller Division of Biological Sciences Director
