Image: Dear Students, You are strongly encouraged to consider applying for a new award to help fund summer undergraduate research. The Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Fellowship (BSURF) has been established to support undergraduate research opportunities in the Division of Biological Sciences within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The Fellowship provides financial assistance to a student who has not had an opportunity to participate in a mentored research experience (paid, volunteer, or for credit) since matriculating to The University of Georgia. An award of $3,000.00 will be provided to the recipient of the Fellowship and paid in two installments in the Summer of 2017. The research is to be completed during the Summer Thru session term of 2017. Eligibility Applicants must be current Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Cellular Biology, Genetics, Marine Sciences, Microbiology, or Plant Biology majors in their 1st through 3rd year and have not had the opportunity to engage in mentored, scientific research. Students are responsible for finding a faculty mentor to supervise the summer experience. CURO, the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities, has a guide to help students find a research mentor: https://curo.uga.edu/students/getting_started_guide.html (remember this experience is not for credit, so you do not need to follow the “Getting Started” instructions until the tips found in Step 4). As a resource to interested applicants, Dr. Jason O’Donnell in Biological Sciences has offered meet and discuss finding mentors as well as other aspects of this application and eventual project – jko@uga.edu. The application deadline is March 15, 2017 at 5:00pm. The completed application packet should be turned in to Room 411, Biological Sciences Building. Only completed application packets will be considered. Best of luck to all of our applicants, Dr. Kris Miller Division of Biological Sciences Director
