Originally from Rome, Georgia, Chera Watts joined the Biology advising team in the summer of 2014. She now serves as the Biology graduation advisor as well as the academic advisor for Cellular Biology and Plant Biology majors. She has a B.S. in Psychology from The University of Georgia, with a minor in Child and Development. Her previous experience includes working as a staff member for the lower division Office of Academic Advisement as well as the Graduation Certification Office in Franklin College of Arts & Sciences at UGA. Additionally, she has worked as a recruiter in human resources for the Marriott Shoals Hotel & Spa in Florence, Alabama.
In addition to advising students on course requirements for their degree, Chera enjoys coaching students on ways to approach faculty to secure undergraduate research positions, discussing potential professional school opportunites and career opportunities, and critiquing resumes. During the Fall 2015, she co-facilitated a workshop about undergraduate research at the Academic Advising Coordinating Council Fall Advisor Workshop with Dr. Mark Farmer, Division Chair of Biological Sciences. Additionally, with the help of the UGA Career Center, Chera has presented various workshops to students about various careers they can obtain with their science degree from UGA, as well as related experiences they can participate in during their collegiate years. As a former first-generation college student, Chera especially enjoys working with this student population.
When not working, Chera enjoys chasing around her son, reading, and any type of exercise.
